The winemaker
It all began in 1646 with Chevalier Guillaume Rahoul, who built this pretty chartreuse and gave it his name. After the French Revolution, the estate passed into the hands of the Balguerie family, who enlarged and embellished the château and developed a genuine winegrowing activity in Bordeaux. This diversity contributes to the complexity of the wines, but also to minimizing the risks associated with climatic incidents. The sandy-gravelly nature of Château Rahoul is closely linked to the presence of the Garonne River and the climatic warming at the end of the Ice Age, which triggered powerful floods and the deposition of these precious gravels. Very light, very early-ripening (because they drain well and are warm at night), these soils help ripen the grapes and create great, elegant wines with delicate tannins. Château Rahoul wines are not afraid to assume their feminine character, and the latest vintages play on seduction.
