In a few words ...

"i make wine at lafite and latour, but my heart is in calon" nicolas-alexandre de ségur, owner in the 18th century. Château calon-ségur is the most northerly cru in the saint-estèphe appellation. Gallo-Roman capital of the town then known as "saint-estèphe-de-calon", the château added the name "ségur" to the name of the owner family in the 17th century. After several successions, the estate reverted in the 18th century to nicolas-alexandre de ségur, nicknamed "the prince of vines" for also owning lafite and latour. Despite the renown of his other two estates, he was particularly fond of calon, and his love for it is still evident on the heart-shaped label affixed to the view of the vineyard. His wines are of great finesse, with airy, lace-weave tannins and a charming style whose delicacy and femininity are sure to delight our senses and taste buds. Their particular style does not necessarily meet the standards of modern tasters. It's a wine that requires patience and isn't for everyone. Nevertheless, calon ségur wines can reach such heights as the legendary vintages of 1926, 1947, 1949, 1953 and 1982. Calon ségur will delight the palates of wine connoisseurs. The estate, run by the Gasqueton family, was recently acquired by Suravenir Assurances in association with Jean-François Moueix (Petrus), and has stated its ambition with conviction: "We aim for nothing less than excellence. In this long process of restructuring, we will go slowly, at the pace of nature. Today, we have a better understanding of the vineyard. Our goal is 2028, by which time Calon-Ségur will be at its very best," says Laurent Dufau, Château General Manager. With this in mind, major investments have been made, with the delivery in 2016 of new vineyard facilities.
