Cabernet Sauvignon rarely appears in Pomerol blends. The crus have never wanted to be classified. Pomerols combine roundness and suppleness with real power. Production is mostly family-run, and despite a few large estates, the average surface area of the 140 estates remains 6 hectares. They have a deep color, a powerful nose of black fruits and floral and animal notes, a well-structured tannic structure and a long persistence on the palate.
The 1998 vintage is very good. The dry, warm climate enabled the grapes to ripen beautifully, with thick skins that saved them from the September rains. The great wines are complex, elegant and fine. The St Emilions and Pomerols produced velvety, powerful wines, while the Margaux and Graves were more focused on fruit and finesse.
"Deep, intense ruby red, this 98 reveals a concentrated, powerful bouquet, offering a beautiful harmony between aromas of cooked fruit, roasting, leather and good wood. The palate reveals silky, fleshy tannins, a fat, round structure and a long, persistent, very pleasant finish."
