In a few words ...

Semper ad altum (always higher) is the motto of cru étoile montante de margaux. Located in the center of margaux near the ferrière and durfort-vivens crus classés, château malescot saint exupery owns several parcels of land scattered between the communes of margaux and soussans. Some of them even border on the vineyards of Château Margaux 1er Cru Classé in 1855. Created in 1608, the estate was acquired in 1697 by Simon Malescot, King Louis Xiv's consul to the Bordeaux Parliament. Building a chartreuse, he gave his name to the estate, which he developed before passing it on to his heirs, who remained at the château until the French Revolution.A succession of new owners followed, leading to the sale of several parcels, which Count Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry set about reunifying. Leaving his name to the estate, he also gave it its motto: semper ad altum (always higher). Joining the nearby town of Margaux as mayor, he worked until his death to increase the size of the vineyard. Sold at auction, the property was acquired by Henri Fourcade, who considerably increased the quantity and quality of production. The Fourcade heirs sold the estate, which came under the aegis of a group of owners. They had the present château built by the architect Michel-Louis Garros, who designed the fountain at the center of Bordeaux?s Place du Parlement. In the course of the 20th century, several foreigners took over the management of this vineyard, first the Germans, then the Scots and finally edmund ritz, who bought the estate, which then consisted of just 7 hectares of vines. At the same time, the ritz family bought the château marquis d'alesme becker, and went on to turn the estate around and renovate the château. robert parker emphasizes the consistency of this 3rd cru classé at every tasting, as in this case for the 2009 vintage: "crimson-colored, this wine offers a rich, full-bodied and elegant bouquet.
