Appellation Lussac-Saint-Émilion

The Lussac Saint-Emilion AOC, a land of vines for over 9 centuries...

1400 hectares in the Libournais region, hilly landscapes, hillsides, plateaus...This is the situation of the Lussac Saint-Emilion appellation. Close to the medieval city of Saint-Emilion, the commune of Lussac, the only production area for the appellation's wines, was already home to vines in the 20th century.

Indeed, the name Lussac comes from a Gallo-Roman character, named Lucius, who built a villa and named it Luccianus. Later, in the 12th century, Cistercian monks settled in the area and developed it. It became attractive and saw the installation of several winegrowers.

Lussac Saint-Emilion red wines are made from merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. The temperate continental climate of the appellation as well as the gentle slopes of the vineyards are very favourable as this allows all the vines to get the same amount of sunshine.

The appellation has sands, soils that give more wines to drink young, and argilo-calcareous soils, more likely to produce wines for ageing.

Tasting the wines of Lussac Saint-Emilion

These red wines offer a dark, ruby-coloured coat. The nose diffuses scents of red fruits and black fruits, such as raspberry and blackcurrant. There are also scents of leather, undergrowth, game, spices and pepper. The palate is oaky, sometimes with hints of candied fruit, and develops powerful but round tannins, very pleasant.

Lussac Saint-Emilion is a perfect accompaniment to game, grilled red meat, roasted meat and meat in mushroom sauce.
