In a few words ...
the haut médoc is located upstream from the gironde estuary. The high gravel content of the soil encourages the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are concentrated, with a tannic structure requiring at least 6 months of ageing. In its youth, the nose offers aromas of red and black fruits, evolving towards spices and vanilla to a greater or lesser extent with ageing. Haut-Medocs are great wines for laying down.
Everything is beautiful about this 1989 vintage, except for some high-yielding enthusiasts whose wines have passed. Some of the finest reds are to be found in pauillac, saint julien, pessac léognan and saint emilion.
It's a great vintage.
