Opinion of the Guide Hachette des Vins 2012 A cru long exploited by Montesquieu's descendants, now owned by Landes industrialist Dominique Coutière. Every year, Clos Montesquieu pits Folie and Raison, the two cuvées of the cru, against each other. The latter is aged 80% in vats, while the former spends eighteen months in barrel. With this vintage, the moral is safe: it's the Raison that wins, but the heart has its reasons... and the coup de coeur, put to the vote, escaped it. The wine is nevertheless convincing, with its deep, intense color, its delicate bouquet of very ripe grapes and spices, its clean, fresh attack, its volume and silky tannins. A wine of great purity, respectful of the fruit, to be kept for three to five years. Rich and intense, letting the grapes express themselves, the cuvée La Folie 2008 red (9,000 b.) is not far behind: also two stars.
"It convinces with its intense, deep color; its bouquet, with delicate aromas of very ripe grapes and spices; its attack, frank and fresh, its volume and silky tannins. A wine of great purity, with respect for the fruit."
