The winemaker

The history of the Château Gloria estate

Château Gloria is one of the exceptions among the Médoc's great châteaux. While almost all have a history spanning several hundred years, Château Gloria was born in 1942. Henri Martin, a local cooper like his father, began by buying a 6-hectare parcel belonging to Château Beychevelle.

Over the years, he enriched his estate with the acquisition of new plots, all from the famous châteaux of the Saint Julien appellation. The estate now covers 44 hectares. At the same time, Henri Martin took an interest in local life and the development of his profession.

He became involved in public life, serving as mayor of Saint Julien and president of the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bordeaux. On his death in 1991, his daughter and her husband, Jean-Louis Triaud, took over the management of Château Gloria.

The Château Gloria vineyard

Today, the Château Gloria vineyard covers 50 hectares, mostly made up of classified growth terroirs, some of which are among the most prestigious. The soil is clay-gravel and made up of Günzian gravel. It is spread over 3 distinct areas: in the center of Beychevelle, to the west and north of the appellation, bordering Pauillac.

The grape varieties are 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The estate is run with the greatest respect for the environment. The grapes are harvested by hand. The grapes are then carefully selected, before being vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and further aged in oak barrels for an average of 14 months.

The wines of Château Gloria

The wines of Château Gloria reflect the typicity of Saint Julien wines, which offer an intense and complex aromatic palette. They have a deep ruby color. These are fine, elegant wines, with blueberry, blackcurrant and blackberry dominating the nose.

Depending on the vintage, the other flavors are less prominent, allowing aromas of prune, tobacco or licorice to alternate. Over time, pleasant tertiary aromas such as leather, fur, venison or truffle appear.

Château Gloria - Saint Julien Rouge

Château Gloria - Saint Julien Rouge reflects the typical characteristics of the Saint Julien appellation, with unique elegance and great cellaring capacity. With age, the wine gains in maturity, which it expresses through exceptional aromatic complexity. The wine is perfectly balanced, with a robust structure. It has a powerful bouquet of blackberry and cedar.

Esprit de Gloria

Esprit de Gloria is the estate's second wine. It is produced from the youngest vines on the Château Gloria estate. Just as typical of Saint Julien wines, it can be enjoyed earlier than its elder brother. Full-bodied and opulent on the palate, with finely grained, velvety tannins. The nose is powerful and fruity.
