The winemaker
The vineyard covers 51 hectares, 48 of which are planted with red grape varieties. The Haut-Brion terroir, formed by two large croups of Gunzian gravel - the Gunz is a glacial period from the Quaternary era - rises 12 to 15 meters above the bottom of the neighboring rivers. These gravels are made up of small pebbles of different quartz varieties: the real gems of the Château Haut-Brion terroir. The Peugue stream to the north and the Serpent stream to the south delimit this vast gravelly terrace, known as Haut Brion, which can be found on old maps of the region and in notarial deeds as early as the early 15th century. The subsoil is clayey-sandy.
