The winemaker
Characteristics of the Château d'Armailhac terroir and vineyard
Traditional Médoc grape varieties are grown on the Château d'Armailhac estate: 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. 20% of the parcels were planted in 1890. The grapes are harvested by hand.
The Château d'Armailhac vineyard extends over 70 hectares to the north of the commune of Pauillac. It is composed of three zones: a plateau of deep, light gravel, perfect for Cabernets, a plateau of gravel with a limestone subsoil to give character to the wine, and a ridge of deep, light gravel. The grape varieties grown are 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 11% Cabernet France and 2% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines is 43 years, and all are cultivated with respect for tradition.
The wines of the Château d'Armailhac estate
The Cabernet terroir is made up of light, very deep gravel, which gives Château d'Armailhac wines such particular finesse and elegance. In terms of cultivation, the Médoc winegrowing tradition is respected. Château d'Armailhac is a racy, fine wine. The 2019 vintage is notably rich and powerful, with a dark red color and tight, satiny tannins.
