The winemaker
The History of Chateau Yveline
The origin of Château Yveline dates back to the early 19th century, a time when the estate was defined more as a farm. Indeed, the main part was devoted to animal husbandry and vegetable cultivation, while the vines occupied only a secondary place.
Managed by the Durand family, the farm became more and more dedicated to wine production each year, while other activities declined. André Durand, who inherited the farm at the beginning of the 20th century, died prematurely in 1927, leaving his mother and widow alone. Wishing to perpetuate the legacy, the two women devoted themselves fully to the wine business and renamed the estate in honor of André's two children, Yves and Jacqueline. Château Yveline was born!
Today, the estate is managed by Christian Durand, André's grandson. He takes advantage of the know-how of his ancestors to produce two recognized wines, belonging to the Lalande de Pomerol and Montagne Saint Émilion appellations.
The vineyard of Château Yveline
The vineyard of Chateau Yveline covers 9 hectares in the commune of Néac which belongs to the Grand Saint Émilionnais and is part of the Canton of Nord-Libournais. The region is famous for its vine culture, with Bordeaux less than an hour away and only 10 kilometers from Saint Émilion.
The grape varieties of Château Yveline are Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. The terroir is composed of clay, limestone, silt and sand. It benefits from the region's climate that is conducive to vines, with its great mildness and generous rainfall, managed by a draining soil.
Christian Durand makes every effort to reduce his impact on the environment. In 10 years, he has done extensive work on his viticulture methods, which has allowed him to halve the number of treatments.
The soils of the parcels are worked so that they do not have to be weeded and the harvest is done manually. Since the 2019 vintage, Chateau Yveline has HVE (High Environmental Value) certification.
The wines of Château Yveline
Chateau Yveline
The first wine, Château Yveline, is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The grapes come from the parcels located east of the Lalande de Pomerol appellation, in the commune of Néac.Château Yveline has a very dark color and turns even darker as it ages. Its aromas are dominated by black fruits which give it a prodigious relief. Its mouth is fleshy and generous.
Château Yveline can be drunk young, but it will delight you more if you have the patience to let it mature for some time in your cellar.
Chateau Les Chapelles
The Château Les Chapelles cuvée is composed of 66% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc and 11% Malbec. The grapes come from parcels located in the western part of the Montagne Saint Émilion appellation. The blend of the three grape varieties gives it an original aromatic complexity. The Malbec in particular gives it a darker color and enriches it with subtle and elegant tannins.
