Chateau TrotteVieille: a historical epic turned family history
Traces of Château TrotteVieille go back as far as the 15th century. Legend has it that it owes its name to an old lady who used to chase down the stagecoaches that passed nearby, looking for the latest news. Until the 19th century, the estate had many owners, until it was acquired in 1947 by Marcel Borie. His son-in-law and heir, Emile Castéja, took over ownership in 1961, handing over management to his son Philippe in the 1980s.
The exceptional terroir of Domaine TrotteVieille
The Château TrotteVieille estate is located northeast of Saint-Emilion. The strength of this vineyard lies in its rare soil, composed of a 30-centimeter layer of clay on a limestone bedrock. The vines, which benefit from a south-western exposure, are planted with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon. A special feature of this vineyard is a plot of Cabernet Franc dating back to 1868, which survived the phylloxera crisis.
The great wines of Château TrotteVieille
The TrotteVieille estate focuses on the quality of its wines rather than the quantity of production. It offers Château TrotteVieille, classified Premier Grand Cru Saint-Emilion since 1955, and Dame TrotteVieille, appellation d'origine Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. Their blend combines the depth of Merlot and the finesse of Cabernet Franc, for wines with fruity, woody notes.
