The winemaker

The history of Château Trolong Mondot dates back to the 18th century

.
In 1745, Abbé Raymond de Sèze built the château in the heart of the Mondot vineyard, a construction that would ensure its growing renown over the years. In 1850, the estate was bought by Raymond-Théodore Troplong, who fell under the spell of the estate and the château, an imposing structure overlooking the Saint-Emilion vineyards. It was Raymond Théodore Troplong who gave the estate its astonishing 33 hectares, the largest of any estate in the region. When he died in 1869, his nephew succeeded him at the head of the estate and added his family name to the estate, which became Château Troplong Mondot. In 1934, the Valette family, wine merchants, acquired the estate. Premier Grand Cru Classé B was awarded to Château Troplong Mondot in 2006, when Christine Valette and her husband, Xavier Pariente, were at the helm of the estate. It was under their leadership that Château Troplong Mondot joined the ranks of Saint-Emilion's finest wines. Since 2017, the Scor reinsurance group has been the exclusive owner of the estate, as well as its Michelin-starred restaurant (Les Belles Perdrix) and guest rooms.

When the singularity of the vineyard produces exceptional wines

The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 106 meters, and its first particularity is its exposure to the four points of the compass. The sunshine is ideal. The second particularity of this vineyard lies in the very rare composition of its soils. The vineyard benefits from unique natural drainage due to the superimposition of a fat clay, a thick limestone rock and fragments of flint. This superposition brings freshness and minerality. Such a soil composition is extremely rare in this region, as the limestone rocks have undergone extensive erosion everywhere else.

In 2007, Claude and Lydia Bourguignon, a couple specializing in microbiology, became advisors to the estate. A host of innovations have been introduced, such as the use of draught horses to reduce soil compaction caused by tractor traffic and to encourage biodiversity, staggered planting, and the integration of new viticultural techniques... While respecting tradition, the owners of the estate continue to infuse modernity with a sense of sustainable development.

Characteristics of Château Troplong Mondot wines

Merlot Noir, representing 85% of the vineyard, shapes the entire identity of this wine. There is 13% Cabernet-Sauvignon Noir and 2% Cabernet-Franc Noir. Mondot is another cuvée produced by the estate. You can't go wrong with a wine of this quality! This dry red wine should be kept between 10 and 13°C, and ideally served at a temperature of between 15 and 17°C. This exceptional wine will go perfectly with red meats (in sauce or grilled) and game.
