Château Tour Saint-Fort
(6 customer reviews)
Château Tour Saint-Fort has experienced a number of ups and downs in its history. From destruction to reconstruction, the estate has risen again and again thanks to determined men and women. Not far from the illustrious Château Calon Ségur, it is based on a 14-hectare vineyard and produces predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Find out more

The winemaker
History
If we're lucky enough to be able to taste its wines, it's thanks to Seigneur de Pez and the Calon family, who created the estate in the 18th century. Together, they helped the estate evolve before it underwent new owners. A succession of owners handed over the keys to the Château and changed its name. It became "Maison Cazaux" at the beginning of the 19th century, and was recognized as a Cru Bourgeois (1852). Sadly, the estate went through some dark times, during which it was forgotten. The period from 1850 to 1900 comes to mind, when crises caused by diseases such as oidium, phylloxera and mildew hit the estate hard. As economic difficulties mounted, the company disappeared from the wine market... It was not until the arrival of Monsieur Pineau that Château Tour Saint-Fort was revived. During its reconstruction, it also won a number of prestigious awards (including the 1905 Liège exhibition). Over time, the number of awards increased, culminating in the famous Cru Bourgeois classification in 1932...
Hard at work
But since then, the estate has changed too. Always focused on the quality of the wines produced, it now does so with a deep commitment. Respect for the soil and vines is the watchword at Château Tour Saint-Fort. The reintroduction of tillage and the recent move towards HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certification show just how committed the estate's teams are to producing great wines, while at the same time respecting the environment.
