The winemaker
Henri de Sigalas was a man of passion who gave Château Sigalas Rabaud the finest of starts. He acquired it in 1863. The estate, a Premier Cru classé in 1855, was then abandoned. In 1903, instead of enlarging the estate, Pierre Gaston de Sigalas reduced it to just 14 hectares. This philosophy of favoring quality over quantity confirmed its classification as a Premier Cru. Laure de Lambert Compeyrot represents the 6th generation of winegrowers to have settled on the estate, next door to Château Yquem. She cultivates old vines in the vineyard and reduces the use of herbicides as much as possible to preserve this "plant heritage".
