The winemaker
The Château Sansonnet, a historic estate
Passing through the hands of many prestigious families, enabling it to be stamped a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé from the 1950s to the 1990s, the Sansonnet estate was bought at the dawn of the 21st century by the Lefévère family, the current owners, who embarked on an ambitious program to renovate and modernize the vineyard, enabling it to return to the Saint-Émilion AOC classification and regain its Grand Cru Classé status.
Chateau Sansonnet rests on an exceptional terroir
The quality of Bordeaux terroir has been proven: Château Sansonnet sits atop the Saint-Émilion plateau. The soil, with its fine clay and limestone, gives it the taste and finesse characteristic of Bordeaux wines. The majority of the Château's seven-hectare vineyard is planted with Merlot, although some Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon are also grown. The grapes are harvested by hand, with a love of tradition and a job well done, for a production of around 30,000 bottles a year.
Chateau Sansonnet produces subtle wines
The estate offers several cuvées, including Château Soutard-Cadet, Château Harmonie and Château Moulin du Cadet. The highly reputed Château Sansonnet Grand Cru Classé Saint Émilion is a wine of great amplitude of taste, with a magnificent ruby color and pronounced tannins in harmony with red fruit flavors (Morello cherry, blackcurrant). Graceful, it can be kept young or cellared to better appreciate the subtlety of its tannins.
