Characteristics of the terroir and vineyard of Château Saint-Pierre
Château Saint-Pierre belongs to the emblematic Bordeaux vineyards. This is the French vineyard with the most AOPs. It is divided into six sub-regions: Médoc, Graves, Entre-Deux-Mers, Libournais, Blayais and Bourgeais, and communal appellations. Château Saint-Pierre is located in Saint-Julien Beychevelle in the Médoc, on land belonging to the Saint-Julien communal appellation. The Saint-Julien AOC is one of the most prestigious red Bordeaux appellations.
The wines of Château Saint-Pierre
The Château produces Saint-Julien grands crus, and in particular 4èmes Grands Crus Classés. These are red wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes. At Château Saint-Pierre, the grapes are harvested by hand. The wines are aged for up to sixteen months to obtain powerful wines. These are medium to long-ageing wines to accompany red meats and game. Recent vintages include 2005, 2009 and 2010.
