The winemaker
The History of Chateau Reaut
In 2003, the Champagne house Roederer acquired the estate, which had been operated for several generations by the Réaut family. The 26-hectare vineyard in the Bordeaux region was restructured with the aim of producing great wines on this exceptional terroir.
In 2009, the Champagne group prefers to review its strategy and decides to sell Château Réaut. It was then that Yannick Evenou, the director of the neighboring Château de La Dominique, located in the prestigious commune of Saint-Émilion, imagined an innovative management. He federated a group of Bordeaux friends, all passionate about wine and its making, and founded an original partnership: Chateau Réaut became the first wine property in history to be owned by 6 Bordeaux and 6 Burgundy people.
The chateau is then widely opened to offers from new partners, so that by 2020, more than 550 individual co-owners spread over more than 15 countries share the shares.
All of them are today the ambassadors of Château Réaut. Each year, they meet for a great convivial day of harvest.
The Château Réaut vineyard
The vineyard of Château Réaut covers 26 hectares, in the commune of Rions, 4 kilometers from Cadillac. The plots overlook the Garonne River, south-east of Bordeaux, where the Romans already cultivated the vine. The plots benefit from the oceanic climate typical of the Bordeaux region.
The terroir is separated into two distinct areas. 70% of the vineyard, planted with Merlot and Cabernet Franc occupy 18 hectares of a clay-limestone hillside, facing south-southwest. The vines benefit from the heat to ripen, as well as generous rainfall. The soil composed of clay and limestone does its job of draining to deliver just the right amount for the fruit to develop dense aromas.
The remaining 30% of the vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, on an 8 hectare gravel plateau. This grape variety prefers the less hydrated part which allows for later ripening.
The wines of Château Réaut
Carat Cuvée Exceptionnelle
Château Réaut's Cuvée Exceptionnelle is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot. It is considered the jewel in the crown of the estate's production and is produced only on the best vintages. The wine is round and harmonious, fruity and exceptional, as the name of the vintage indicates. It is a wine that lends itself wonderfully to aging, but can also be enjoyed young.
Chateau Réaut
Chateau Réaut is composed of 58% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. It spearheads the production and each of its vintages is eagerly awaited. The wine is fruity, dominated by ripe red fruits, more or less acidic depending on the year. The suppleness of its tannins is appreciated, while its long finish brings freshness.
Château Réaut white
Château Réaut in its white version is made entirely of Sauvignon fermented in new barrels. This treatment gives it an intense aromatic complexity. The wine is balanced and very fresh.Rosé de Réaut
The Rosé de Réaut is composed of equal parts of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Its delicacy is matched only by its finesse. Its acidic freshness is wonderful at the table, but also as an aperitif.Registered since 06/07/2017
