The winemaker
History
René Poitevin founded the vineyard in 1950 when the estate had only a few hectares and delegated the vinification to the local cooperative cellar. It was his grandson Guillaume Poitevin, a third generation winemaker, who made the first wine at the château in 1991. After theoretical and practical training in viticulture and oenology in Bordeaux, he committed himself to producing wines that are both modern and authentic by combining traditional viticulture and new technologies. It is also under the guidance of the oenologist Antoine Médeville that the Poitevin family elaborates its cuvées.
Thanks to their careful and meticulous know-how, Vignobles Poitevin gained notoriety and joined the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc in 2003.
In addition, Château Poitevin won La Coupe des Crus Bourgeois in 2012, an award that consecrates twenty years of determination and work.
Ecological commitment at the heart of the practice
Chateau Poitevin respects the following 6 principles : The promotion of sustainable viticulture, respectful of the environment and supporting the multifunctionality of agriculture, the use of natural regulatory mechanisms, the establishment of a healthy environment with the aim of protecting the health of producers, their employees and citizens in general, the guarantee of producing healthy grapes and obtaining great wines by reducing the rate of residues to the maximum and finally, the increase of biological diversity in the plots and their surroundings and finally the improvement of the quality of the water, air and soil.
In 2015, Vignobles Poitevin received Terra Vitis certification. In 2018, the farm is certified HVE (High Environmental Value) level 3.
The wines
The grape varieties grown in the vineyard are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
The Château Poitevin cuvée is the result of a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. It is a wine of the Medoc gourmand, which can be drunk young or aged, a sure value of "pleasure wines". It is round and fruity in the mouth, with the power of the Medoc and soft tannins. It brings elegant spicy and woody touches.
The grapes are harvested by machine and then vinified in temperature-controlled vats in a parcel-based logic, before being kept 14 months in barrels. The Château Poitevin cuvée can be kept between 10 and 15 years.
The 2013 cuvée suffered a particularly difficult year, nevertheless, a complex sorting of the berries during the harvest and an outstanding know-how makes the 2013 Château Poitevin an interesting and greedy wine.
Thanks to an Indian summer, the 2014 vintage turned out to be an excellent vintage.
The 2015 vintage benefited from optimal weather conditions and makes it an exceptional vintage, giving Château Poitevin naturally rich aromas.
