The winemaker
The producer
The origins of the estate date back to the late 1680s. The vineyard was developed by Countess Virginie de Lalande from 1850, when she inherited shares in it, co-owned with her sisters. From then on, she set out to achieve excellence in the château's production. It was another woman, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, who later gave the vineyard its international reputation.
Since 2007, it has belonged to the Louis Roederer Champagne House. This family-run business has driven ambitious changes in the way the estate is run, while preserving the practices that have made it famous and enhancing the value of its terroir. A transition to biodynamic farming is underway, and numerous investments have been made to equip the estate with state-of-the-art facilities.
Le Terroir
The vines are 35 years old on average, and are planted on a terroir of Garonne gravel over clay. The vineyards are spread over two communes, Pauillac and Saint Julien.
It is made up of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The blending of these grape varieties gives the wine a unique personality.
