The winemaker
This wine estate was founded in 1972 in Saint Estèphe in the Médoc, and has belonged to the Lagneaux family since 1983. Originally a two-hectare vineyard, it now covers 90 parcels on almost 20 hectares.
Its wines are regularly cited in specialist magazines such as Revue des Vins de France and Bettane et Desseauve, and since 2009 have been recognized as Cru Supérieur Bourgeois in the Médoc Crus Bourgeois classification.
The estate is located in Gironde. When it was founded by Francis Souquet, the vineyard was spread over two sites, "Marbuzet" and "Le Puy". This experienced winemaker, a great expert in Medoc terroirs, immediately saw the potential of these plots, and from the very first vintages, the quality of Petit Bocq wines was noticed by experts.
Purchased in 1993 by Gaëtan Lagneaux, the estate grew with the acquisition of new plots to reach its current size. The grape varieties are mainly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is currently managed by Jacques Lagneaux, Gaëtan's father, following his untimely death in 2012.
The Château Petit Bocq vineyard is made up of a mosaic of plots stretching from Saint Corbian in the north of the appellation to Cos in the south. It thus covers a great diversity of terroirs, offering the vines a multitude of subsoils and exposures. Médoc terroirs are characterized by the presence of gravel or clay. These soils give the appellation's wines a unique signature that is unmistakable, and this rich palette lends a wide variety of nuances and aromas to the estate's cuvées.
The vines are grown using traditional techniques adapted to the specific characteristics of each plot, to limit human intervention as much as possible, whether curative or preventive.
The microbial life of the soil is preserved, and the estate favors natural methods that respect the natural environment. It has received HVE High Environmental Value and Terra Vitis certifications in recognition of its commitment to environmental protection.
Harvesting is done by hand when the fruit is "ripe", to obtain fresh, complex wines. The mosaic of parcels that make up the Château Petit Bocq vineyard means that each one must be picked separately, and a daily picking schedule is implemented.
At the winery, each lot is vinified separately. Aging is also done separately, and the Château Petit Bocq is then blended. The result is a unique wine, perfectly expressing the characteristics and aromas of its vintage and appellation.
Since 2010, a second cuvée has been made, from two new parcels in the Pauillac AOC, Lagneaux à Pauillac.
