The winemaker
Château Meyre is a wine estate located in the commune of Avensan, in the Gironde department, in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region. The estate offers two red wines belonging to the appellations AOP Haut Médoc and AOP Margaux.
It has been more than three centuries since the vines of Château Meyre were cultivated. The estate has had various owners over the years. In particular, it belonged to the Rabot family whose most prominent member was Paul Rabot, a famous poet of the late 19th century. The author was inspired by the magnificence of the castle, as well as the beauty of the setting, to compose his poetry. The castle also belonged to Colette Lenôtre, the wife of the legendary Gaston Lenôtre (1920 - 2009) who marked the history of pastry.
For more than 20 years, Château Meyre has been owned by the Hetrakul family.
The estate is located in the heart of the Medoc and the terroirs of Moulis and Margaux. Its wine production has long been renowned. It was even part of the very first growths of Avensan, recognized since 1876. The wines of Château Meyre have been classified Cru Bourgeois since 1932 and Cru Bourgeois Supérieur since 2020, an exceptional recognition that rewards the commitment and passion of the winemakers. Its wines are distributed all over the world.
Château Meyre also offers a luxury hotel, as well as an oenological tour that allows visitors to discover the vineyard and the wine-making methods to end with a tasting.
The vineyard of Château Meyre covers 17 hectares belonging to the Haut Médoc appellation, to which are added 2 hectares located in the Margaux appellation.
Since 2008, Château Meyre has been committed to a more ecological reconversion of its operation. Thanks to reasoned and environmentally friendly cultivation methods, the estate obtained organic certification in 2011 for all of its vines.
Chateau Meyre - AOP Haut Médoc
Château Meyre wine belonging to the Haut Médoc appellation was one of the first organic Cru Bourgeois of the left bank.
Made from a majority Merlot blend, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the wine is characterized by its firm texture. Its nose is powerful and announces its richness. The palate is harmonious, dominated by red fruit aromas, backed by light notes of spice and pepper.
The wine can be drunk relatively young, but it lends itself very well to ageing which intensifies its aromatic palette.
Gallen de Château Meyre - AOP Margaux
The red wine Gallen de Château de Meyre belongs to the AOP Margaux. Composed of a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, it sports a beautiful deep red color.
The nose mixes aromas of very ripe black fruits with some red fruits. The palate is powerful and very fruity. Its exceptionally long finish keeps the dark fruit flavors all the way through.
Château Meyre's Gallen expresses all the aromatic elegance typical of the wines of the Margaux appellation. The aging process allows the wine to improve and gain in complexity, while maintaining its exceptional balance.
