The Chevalier Méric, a famous Crusader, promised to bury his golden armor under an oak tree on his estate if he returned safely from the Crusades. Having kept his promise, he had the immense honor of being ennobled by King Saint-Louis.
At the time, the Château Méric estate was the largest vineyard in the Médoc, but it was divided up by the Comte de Lussay, who squandered the fortune of the demoiselles de Rosemond, heirs to the vineyard. The Château Méric terroir, already listed as a "Crû Bourgeois" in the 2nd edition of Ferret 1868, heads the commune of Jau Dignac and Loirac.
The wines of Château Méric were appreciated for their finesse, silky tannins and aromas of red fruit and vanilla, which made them particularly sought-after.The new management team has revived the name and reputation by combining tradition with cutting-edge wine-making and ageing technologies.
