The winemaker

The producer

The estate has borne the name of the Marquis de Terme since 1762. Managed by several families throughout its history, one of them, the Feuillerat family, left a lasting mark on the château's production. Three generations succeeded one another in managing Château du Marquis de Terme, constantly improving the wines to the point of excellence. Their work was rewarded at the Universal Exhibition organized by Napoleon III in 1855, and the château's wines were awarded the appellation Grand Cru Classé.

The current owners inherited the estate, acquired by their father in 1935. Since 2009, Château Marquis de Terme has been managed by Ludovic David. An oenologist with a passion for his craft, he implements innovative practices while enhancing the estate's rich terroir.

Commitments

The exceptional wines produced at Château Marquis de Terme for almost 250 years are the result of practices rooted in ancestral know-how, rigorous work, but also creativity, open-mindedness and the ability to evolve practices. Constantly questioning our methods has enabled us to modernize the estate, while preserving ancient know-how, soil quality and biodiversity.

As soon as he arrived, Ludovic David set in motion a series of major changes, opening up the Château to wine tourism, as well as to international markets. He has also undertaken numerous redevelopments, including the uprooting and replanting of grape varieties.

Terroir

The soils of Château Marquis de Terme are typical Margaux gravel. They are home to noble grape varieties: Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Sauvignon is the majority grape variety on the estate.

Margaux's terroir is exceptional, with the largest number of Grands Crus Classés, including those of the Marquis de Terme. It offers an exceptional location and well-drained soils, enabling the vines to root very deeply up to 5 m.

The wines

The wines produced on the estate are balanced, modern, yet elegant and fine.

The Château Marquis de Terme is the first wine produced at the château. Most of the estate's land is devoted to the production of this red wine of exceptional quality. The cuvée's majority grape variety is Cabernet Sauvignon and to a lesser extent Merlot.

Le 9 de Marquis de Terme. This red wine cuvée has been made since 2012 from a selection of the best grapes. It counts 999 bottles each year and is fermented in oak barrels. The vinification is done only under wood and it gives the 9 de Marquis de Terme its very subtle woody side, while keeping its fruity and round side.

La couronne de Marquis de Terme is a balanced red wine, both fresh and elegant, ideal for an evening with friends. The cuvée is vinified in temperature-controlled concrete vats, then aged in oak barrels for 16 to 18 months.

The Marquis de Terme rosé. All the expertise and excellence of the Marquis de Terme teams at the service of a fresh, round Mediterranean rosé wine, with notes of raspberries and pears. The owners also own Domaine de Lauzade (in Côtes de Provence) and Domaine de Val d'Arenc in Bandol. The grape varieties used for the cuvée are Grenache, Cinsault and Tibouren.

Choosing a Marquis de Terme wine means choosing excellence from one of the oldest Grands Crus Classés.
