Château Marquis d'Alesme's history dates back to 1585. For a long time, it belonged to the founding family, before being sold to a Dutch wine merchant. It was the latter who propelled the estate to the rank of 3rd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. The 15-hectare estate is divided into three parcels: the first, adjoining the Château Margaux residence and vineyard, is a siliceous-gravelly soil, part of which is more clayey. The second parcel, also siliceous-gravelly, lies along the famous D2, the route des Châteaux. Finally, the third block, located in the commune of Soussans, north of Margaux, is half silicomarl and half silicogravelly. These gently sloping soils offer excellent sunshine and good drainage. In 2010, Nathalie Perrodo and Marjolaine Maurice undertook a pharaonic restoration of the estate to its former grandeur.
