Château Lynch-Bages
(16 customer reviews)
At the gateway to Pauillac, the great winegrowing history of Domaine de Lynch-Bages began in the 18th century, when in 1728 it became the property of Chevalier Drouillard. Covering some 100 hectares in the commune of Pauillac, the Lynch-Bages vineyard lies entirely on the soil favored by the Grands Crus, formed along the estuary by the gravel alluvium of the Médoc. The wines produced are highly appreciated, and the château was ranked among the fifth growths in the 1855 classification for the Paris Universal Exhibition. Find out more

The winemaker
The producer
Located at the gateway to Pauillac (Gironde), on the land of "Batges", Château Lynch-Bages traces its history in that of the Médoc. Existing since the 16th century, the terroir of Bages only began its great viticultural history in the 18th century, when Thomas Lynch took over ownership from 1749 to 1824. The wines produced were highly appreciated, and the château was ranked among the fifth growths in the 1855 classification for the Paris Universal Exhibition.
Today, the château has been run by the Cazes family since the estate was taken over on the eve of the Second World War. In the vineyard, work is carried out by Franck Debrais' team, and a team of 35 people under the responsibility of Nicolas Labenne follow the vineyard on a daily basis to preserve the agricultural gene pool and monitor the extremely precise division of parcels carried out in 2006.
Commitments
Committed to preserving the estate's winegrowing genetic heritage, Château Lynch-Bages has implemented satellite technology and a system of soil quality surveys. These measures ensure that the specificity of the terroir is preserved over the long term.
Harvesting and vinification are both carried out by human hands, with the help of high-performance technologies to supervise and analyze the work in real time. The harvests are organized according to grape variety, maturity and terroir, enabling us to shape the personalities of each plot.
Terroir
Since 1885, the château has been located in the land of the Grands Crus Classés. Spread over more than 100 hectares in the heart of the Médoc and bordering the estuary, Pauillac's vineyards benefit from a moderate climate and homogeneous geology, allowing for a fair supply of water, deep rooting and the finesse of the fruit produced.
The parcels are planted with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The oldest vines on the estate are 60 years old, with an average age of 30.
Finally, the estate benefits from the renowned Pauillac appellation, which holds three of the Médoc's four premier Grands Crus Classés. The richness, density and depth of Pauillac wines enable the development of an aromatic bouquet of incredible finesse.
The wine
Thanks to the quality of its soils and vines, Château Lynch-Bages produces powerful, characterful wines.
Chateau Lynch-Bages combines structure, finesse and elegance with the aim of following in the footsteps of the great wines of Pauillac. With age, it gains in complexity and flavor.
L'Echo de Lynch-Bages, the estate's second wine since 1976, has, like its big brother, the characteristic Pauillac flavors and length on the palate. Round and supple, it can be enjoyed in its early years and has good ageing potential.
