The winemaker

The choice of renewal

Château Le Sartre is a very old vineyard, known for having produced exceptional wines at the beginning of the 20th century. The famous guide feret has also long testified to this. In 1981, the estate was bought by Anthony Perrin who decided to replant the entire vineyard to give it a new direction, marked by respect for the environment and the Bordeaux wine ecosystem. Indeed, the vineyard is grown according to the principles of agriculture raisonnée, a method widely used at the best properties. The work tool has been completely rethought and renovated to ensure a less brutal transition. Anthony Perrin, who already owned Château Carbonieux at the time of the acquisition, also added the vineyard of Château Bois Martin to his holdings in 1996. He then continued his pursuit of excellence until 2005 when he handed over the management of the estate to his sister, Marie José Leriche, accompanied by oenologist David Château. Anthony Perrin passed away in 2008, leaving his estate in good hands.

The reflection of a local terroir, but not only

The geographical location of Château Le Sartre is remarkable. Located in the heart of the terroir where the Grands Crus Classés of Graves are established, everything predisposes it to the production of outstanding wines. The 26-hectare estate is managed by a team of competent professionals working in a modernized vineyard following an uncompromising and irreproachable quality approach.
The ambivalence of Château Le Sartre, however, is surprising. Indeed, as far as its white grapes are concerned, the estate respects without fail the standards of the Bordeaux left bank vineyard: its grape varieties are traditional with 80% sauvignon blanc and 20% semillon. While for the red grapes of the domain, the dominance of merlot over cabernet sauvignon can be surprising. The house thus makes both the choice of tradition and modernity, a risky bet that can however pay off big.

High quality wines

Ironically, despite the atypical grape variety, the Grand Vin rouge de Château Le Sartre is 60 to 65% Cabernet Sauvignon to 35 to 40% Merlot. Produced under the Grand Vin de Graves label, it offers a roundness on the palate balanced by the freshness of the fruit. This is a most enjoyable wine that attests to the effectiveness of the house's methods.

Its brother the Grand Vin blanc competes with it in quality. Its pale yellow color codes for a nose with delicate aromas of citrus and white flowers. On the palate, it is suppleness and richness that we find for a beautiful finish all in length. These are wines that surprise by their quality in view of the competitive price that they display.
