The winemaker

Saint Emilion, located 35 km northeast of Bordeaux, is one of the few UNESCO World Heritage Sites: not only for its renowned crus, but also for its medieval town and its monuments on the northern slopes of the Dordogne valley. The commune's territory covers just 27 km2. Just over 3,000 inhabitants live in Saint Emilion, and every year, a million tourists wander the old streets and visit the vineyards and their Grands Crus. It's here, embedded in the setting formed by the most prestigious chateaux and estates: Clos Fourtet, Canon, Beausejour, Grand Pontet... that lies the real gem that is the : Château le Chatelet. Château le Chatelet, located in the locality of Le Châtelet, is only 300 metres from the Collegiate Church and the Bell Tower overlooking the Monolithic Church (the largest in Europe), and less than 200 metres from the old Church of Saint Martin de Mazerat. Château le Châtelet's vineyards are located on one of the best terroirs on the Saint Emilion plateau, with a predominantly clay-limestone soil (a thin layer of clay on a tributary bedrock). The richness of this terroir is due in particular to an exceptional microclimate. On the slopes overlooking the Dordogne valley, the vineyards benefit from both remarkable sunshine and the positive influences of a temperate oceanic climate. With a small surface area of just 3.18 hectares, the resulting product is rare and highly sought-after both by a demanding and loyal clientele (often handed down from father to son), and for export. Given the vineyard's low annual production of less than 15,000 bottles, the majority of connoisseurs prefer to reserve en primeur wines. Made up of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc - the ideal blend for producing a Grand Saint Emilion - the vineyard is ideally planted with different grape varieties.
