The winemaker
A wine estate for over 100 years, Château Laulan (since 1982) was formerly called "Château Maragou" and produced mainly a sweet white wine.
11.4 ha of vines located in the Francs - Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, about 15km from Saint-Emilion.
Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec are planted on clay, silt and limestone representing 10 ha of vines.
Sémillon and Chenin Blanc, planted at their highest point on limestone, occupy 1 ha.
The grapes are harvested mechanically and by hand, then vinified in concrete vats, TAVA terracotta amphorae
and stainless steel vats.
Aging takes place in concrete vats, TEDEM-regenerated oak barrels (400L, 500L) and TAVA amphoras (750L).
A committed regenerative viticulture is applied, and restructuring is underway, with particular attention paid to agroforestry (around 600 trees planted in the bocage), green manuring and the use of PNPPs (natural preparations of little concern), and no tillage.
Currently in its 3rd year of organic conversion with Ecocert (AB certified from vintage 2024), the wines are vinified without animal inputs.
