The winemaker

The history of Château Larmande

Château Larmande is one of the oldest properties in Saint Émilion. It first appears in the town's archives in 1585. It had various owners, before being given as a wedding present to Alice Capdemourlin and Ferdinand Meneret. Three generations of the couple's descendants have lived at Château Larmande and worked its vineyards.
At the end of 1990, Jean Meneret sold Château Larmande to the La Mondiale insurance group, now AG2R La Mondiale. The company specializes in winegrowing. It also owns Châteaux Soutard and Petit Faurie de Soutard, Grands Crus Classés de Saint Émilion, as well as Château Grand Faurie La Rose, Saint Émilion Grand Cru.
Since 2018, Château Larmande has held the HVE level 3 label (High Environmental Value).
Since 2019, Château Larmande offers wine tourism activities, as well as the organization of receptions.

The Château Larmande vineyard

The Château Larmande vineyard covers 20 hectares in a single block. Its parcels are located on the northern slopes of the Saint Émilion appellation, 1 kilometer from the medieval village. The Château Larmande vineyard is planted with 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, growing on sandy, clayey-siliceous and clayey-limestone terroirs.
The estate is run using viticulture raisonnée, with a very strict use of inputs. The products used to care for the vines are natural, to preserve biodiversity and protect the vines as naturally as possible.
The vines are worked with animal traction, using Percheron draught horses.
The wines are made using traditional methods in stainless steel vats. They are then aged for 14 to 18 months in terracotta amphorae and French oak barrels.
The porous composition of terracotta produces micro-oxygenation that softens the wine, as well as optimally preserving its fruity flavors. Since the 2018 vintage, 10% of the Château Larmande estate has been aged in amphora.

The wine Château Larmande - Grand Cru Classé Saint Émilion - Vintage 2018

It is a blend of 81% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Chateau Larmande 2018 is bursting with black fruit flavors, enhanced by spicy notes. The palate is delicate, with a deliciously silky texture. The tannins are harmonious. The palate is long and lively, always remaining very fresh.
