The winemaker

The history of the estate

Château La Fleur-Pétrus is one of the most renowned estates in Pomerol. Spread over the "Petrus" and "La Fleur" plots, this estate has its roots in the 18th century. The first acquisition of Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1950, Château La Fleur-Pétrus is the first piece of the future Moueix empire.

However, the estate's reputation only began to take off in 1994, after the purchase of 4 hectares of old Cabernet Franc vines from the neighboring château, Château Le Gay. These old Cabernet Franc vines bring a very noble complexity to the château's wines.

The terroir

Very prestigious, the La Fleur-Pétrus estate owes its reputation to the specificity of its soils, gravel and clay soils of the Pomerol plateau. Located between 33 and 38 meters of altitude, the vineyard juggles between the different soils on which it rests. The gravelly parcels bring elegance to the wine, while the clayey ones give that dense and velvety side to the wine.

The main grape variety planted in the vineyard is Merlot, which perfectly combines suppleness and generosity. Cabernet Franc is also found on the gravel and fine clay so as to bring rigor and complexity to the blends. Petit Verdot is also planted on fine gravel for the spicy finish it provides.

In total, the La Fleur-Pétrus vineyard covers 18.7 hectares of vines, with 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.

The wines

Typical of the great Pomerols, the wines of Château La Fleur-Pétrus offer elegance and generosity with each vintage. The wines are of remarkable finesse and complexity, both on red and black fruits, as well as on empyreumatic notes, or even floral with touches of violet.

The 2009 and 2010 vintages are recognized worldwide as being among the best wines of Pomerol and Bordeaux. Both vintages have been awarded the prestigious 97/100 rating by Robert Parker.
