The winemaker

In the 13th century, the Château de la Commanderie was owned by the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, and housed pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Their mission was to protect pilgrims from gangs of thieves. In 2019, the Comte and Comtesse de Colbert purchased the 39-hectare property, 29 hectares of which are planted with vines. The vineyard surrounds the property. The vineyard is composed of two types of soil: the upper part is sandy gravel on variegated clay; and the middle and lower part is sandy gravel on deep clayey sands. The average age of the vineyard is 36 years, and the Cuvée Rubis is hand-harvested from a selection of the best plots. The estate has chosen to move towards HVE 3 certification and respect for the environment by working the soil and eliminating all insecticides, with the advice of Derenoncourt consultant.
