The winemaker

In 1882, Denis Durantou's great-great-grandfather, Monsieur Mauleon-Rouchut, brought together various parcels of Clos de l'Eglise and Domaine de Clinet, acquired by his family in the 18th century, to form a 4.5-hectare vineyard around the Church of Saint-Jean de Pomerol. The wines of Eglise Clinet have exceptional ageing potential and, in recent vintages, are considered to be on a par with Pétrus. Indeed, Denis Durantou, a visionary man and talented winemaker, has taken this estate to the pinnacle of the appellation. This 4.5-hectare estate is located on the high plateau of Pomerol. The terroir is composed of clay and gravel, with no excess water thanks to the natural slopes of the plots and the century-old network of drains. With vines over 40 years old, the passionate Denis Durantou vinifies his wines in such a way as to bring out the complexity of the terroir and the quality of the fruit picked at its optimum phenolic ripeness. Low yields explain why this great Pomerol is only produced in very limited quantities.
