The winemaker
It was in 1912 that Pierre Henri Lacoste set up as a winegrower on the land of Domaine du Chatain in Néac. Previously a wine transporter, he took barrels of wine in his horse-drawn cart to the port of Libourne.
For their part, Marguerite and Georges Rivière began their winegrowing career by purchasing land and vines in Graves de Lavergne (commune of Néac) in 1917.
With the marriage of Denise Lacoste (daughter of Pierre Henri Lacoste) and André Rivière (grandson of Marguerite and Georges Rivière), the two properties were united to form Château Haut Chatain.
Today, Martine Rivière, their daughter, manages, produces and markets the wine from the family estate, perpetuating the tradition and know-how handed down for over 5 generations.
