The winemaker

Located on the slopes of a south-facing hillside overlooking Libourne and the beautiful valley of Isle, the vineyard of 9 hectares stretching on clay-limestone soils of the sandstone Fronsardais. The vines are Merlot compound (90%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). The average age of the vines is over 40 years. Particular attention is given to cultivation methods to bring the best quality grapes to mature and with respect for the environment (green harvesting, pest management ...). Dany and Michel Rolland, heirs of a strong wine tradition, oenologists from Bordeaux University, knew well the Fronsac appellation and had wanted, after consulting many properties there to make wine and s' install. In 1986, they bought a few hectares in the town of Saillans, overlooking the Isle and Libourne, in a beautiful setting on a south-facing hillside: The Castle Fontenil was born. In 2000, Dany and Michel Rolland, always looking for new experiments bâchent some parcels of vines to prevent the penetration of rain. The INAO has held that this practice could result in a modification of the soil, the product has no name and is a "table wine" wine.
