The winemaker

Château Fonbadet, with its rich history of noble origins, is located in Pauillac and evolves alongside the greatest vintages of the left bank of the Bordeaux vineyard such as Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Latour. Its privileged location makes it the land of critically acclaimed quality wines.

A century-long history

Records show wine-making activity on the current Chateau Fonbadet lands at the end of the Ancien Régime, but the Peyronie family that has ruled the estate for several decades was already known in the region in the early 17th century. The estate of Château Fonbadet is therefore the bearer of centuries of history that continues today. The adventure of the Peyronie family to bring Château Fonbadet to become the reference it is today began in the 1930s when Robert Peyronie, whose father was the manager of Château Lafite-Rothschild, decided to build his own vineyard through successive acquisitions of plots in the Pauillac area. It was at the end of the Second World War that he launched his first vintages of superior quality. His son Pierre took over after his death in 1963 and continued his know-how and dedication to his estate. He extended the possessions of Château Fonbadet by acquiring Château Pauillac and Château Heut-Pauillac in 1971. Today and for several years, it is Pascale Peyronie, Pierre's daughter, who leads the estate with a masterful hand, continuing the work of her ancestors.

Three parcels that are one

The vines of Château Fonbadet share part of the terroir of the Grands Crus Classés du Médoc. Indeed, by evolving geographically alongside them, they enjoy a similar geology composed of gravel and colluvium that allow the production of high-end wines. The 20 hectares of the property are divided into three parcels scattered over the Pauillac appellation. All of them are close to the vines of the Grands Crus Classés, which gives them an exceptional character. The climate of the region is also ideal for the vineyard : its North-South orientation allows it to benefit from an excellent sunshine while the Gironde and the Pacific Ocean offer their river and sea currents. Finally, the vineyard is planted with the traditional grape varieties of the left bank with a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon vines, completed by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The traditions that are applied in the viticulture methods then guarantee an exemplary conduct of the vine.

High-flying wines endorsed by opinion leaders

Château Fonbadet vinifies various red wines as implied by the estate's grape variety. Its flagship products are Chateau Fonbadet and Chateau Pauillac, two wines characterized by black fruit aromas while one stands out for its brioche and toast notes and the other for its spicy finish. Both are highly rewarded by the international press with scores exclusively above 91/100. Four other vintages are also available and are marked by their great finesse and elegance.
