It is located in the commune of Moulis-en-Médoc, to the west of most of the Médoc's communal appellations: its vineyards begin 3 km from the Gironde and extend westwards. The winemaker
A family story
Dutruch Grand Poujeaux has been handed down from generation to generation. The estate was created in the early 19th century. Traces of this heritage can be found in the 1868 Ferret guide. The Cordonnier family acquired the estate in 1967. François senior Cordonnier grew the vineyard from 11 to 28 hectares. He handed over to his nephew in the 1990s.
An exceptional terroir
The terroir of Dutruch Grand Poujeaux is known as the best in Moulis. The production area is 31 hectares with 9,000 vines per hectare. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot are grown here. Wines from this terroir are aged in oak barrels, and harvested mainly by hand.
Land conducive to cultivation
The vines of Dutruch Grand Poujeaux benefit from gravel soils identical to those of Saint-Estèphe and an oceanic climate. This ensures optimal ripening of the grapes. The wines they produce are of the highest quality, with aromas of red fruit and a hint of toast. The tannin is pronounced, but well-balanced by a fresh, clean mouthfeel.
Tasting a Dutruch Grand Poujeaux
We recommend drinking them at 16°C to 17°C. They'll go well with beef in sauce, prime rib or a rack of veal. You can also serve it with a saint-nectaire or other mature cheeses.
