The winemaker

Legend attributes this former hunting lodge to Armand du Plessis, nephew of Cardinal de Richelieu. In 1830, Monsieur Fabre bequeathed the estate to his son Pierre. In 1861, the latter divided the vineyard between his son Pierre Léon (who became owner of Duplessis Fabre) and his daughter, Madame Hauchecorne (heiress to Haut-Vignoble, which became Duplessis-Hauchecorne). The estate remained in the Hauchecorne family until 1924, when it was sold to Mr. Delors, a wine broker. The estate was classified Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in 1932. Located in the Moulis appellation, one of the six village appellations of the Haut-Médoc (along with Pauillac, Margaux, Saint-Estèphe, Saint-Julien and Listrac), the estate extends over 18 hectares, planted with vines that are on average twenty-five years old. The sandy-clay and clay-marl terroir rests on a fissured limestone bedrock, ensuring good natural drainage. The grape varieties are predominantly Merlot (62%), which expresses itself particularly well in these soils. Other grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon (22%), Cabernet Franc (14%) and Petit Verdot (2%).
