The winemaker

In 1925, Antonio Subra, of Spanish origin, bought his first plots of land and, together with his children Antoine and Daniel, developed a farming business in the Grands Vins de Bordeaux area. Over the years, market gardening and livestock farming disappeared, to be replaced by vineyards. The Château du Garde was born, and through 4 generations, it grew. In 2009, great-grandson Jean-Benoît Subra took over the family business. He specializes in viticulture and develops new techniques on the estate, acquired through his travels and experience, for the production of Bordeaux Grands Vins. It's said that a good winemaker is always dissatisfied. We are constantly striving for excellence and originality, so Jean-Benoît's work continues year after year, for your pleasure and his own, because, let's face it, a happy winemaker is a winemaker who makes you happy. In 2014, the estate acquired a new winery and a new brand: Château Rauzé Lafargue, whose first elixir saw the light of day in 2015. Today, the estate covers 30 hectares in the Bordeaux and Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation areas. This development was made possible thanks to family support. Our wines have been tasted by Paolo Basso and Paz Levinson, two of the world's greatest sommeliers, and have appeared several times in Sommeliers International magazine, as well as Terre de Vins and Vignobles & Gastronomie, among the Grands Vins de Bordeaux. One of our Prestige cuvées (Cuvée Odette vintage 2009) beat Château Figeac, a Grand Cru Classé of the same year, in a blind tasting at La Plateforme Lyon in 2018.
