The winemaker

The History of Chateau Dompierre

Michel Aroldi was born in Libourne in 1959. Heir to a long peasant tradition, he began his career as a winemaker next to Sauveterre de Guyenne. In 1993, he settled near his native land, thanks to the acquisition of Château Plain-Point. He cultivated this great terroir with talent and then developed his ecological strategy, aiming to preserve the ecosystem that reigned - and still reigns - throughout the estate.

His treatment of the vines consists of meticulous, highly targeted care and minimal use of chemicals. He implements similarly respectful processes in the winery to achieve a natural biological balance in the winemaking process.

Eager to expand his estate, Michel Aroldi then acquired Château Dompierre. Long attracted by the terroir of Pauillac and the Gironde estuary, he reproduced on his new estate the recipes that allowed him to make a name for himself in the Médoc.

The vineyard of Château Dompierre

The vineyard of Chateau Dompierre extends over a little more than ten hectares, spread between the communes of Saint Laurent Médoc and Pauillac. It benefits from the favorable climate for vines of the Gironde estuary, as well as its gravelly hilltops.

The grape varieties are 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. The average age of the vines is 40 years.

The vineyard of Château Dompierre is conducted in the respect of agronomic rules, with the most ecological care possible to preserve the ecosystem. The work of the soil, with plowing and the contribution of organic manure, makes it possible to reduce phytosanitary treatments to a strict minimum. Everything is done to preserve the local fauna.

The wines of Château Dompierre

Chateau Dompierre offers three red wines from the Médoc, Haut Médoc and Pauillac. Michel Aroldi only puts his wines on sale after a few years of rest in the cellars, which allows access to vintages that are already ready to drink.

The wines of Chateau Dompierre are dense and impose a wide aromatic palette, typical of the wines of the Medoc.

Dompierre Pauillac

The red wine Dompierre Pauillac is made from the single grape variety Cabernet Sauvignon, grown in the Saint Lambert sector of the commune of Pauillac. It is produced at a rate of 10,600 bottles per year.

La Croix Dompierre - AOC Médoc

The red wine La Croix Dompierre is made from a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. The grapes come from the gravel parcel facing the estuary, Saint Christoly Médoc, and Begadan, a gravel and clay-limestone parcel.

Chateau Dompierre produces an average of 24,000 bottles per year.

Les Charmes Dompierre - Médoc

Les Charmes Dompierre is a second red wine, on the same model as Croix Dompierre. It is made from the same plots and the same blend. The average annual production is 18 000 bottles.
