The winemaker
Along with Calon Ségur, Pez is the oldest wine-growing area in Saint-Estèphe. Its creation dates back to the 15th century. In 1452, the damoiseau Jean de Briscos governed it; in 1526, it was the turn of the nobleman Ducos, followed in 1585 by Jean de Pontac. It was to the Pontacs, also creators of Haut-Brion, that Pez owed the early glory of its vineyard. Pez remained in this family until the French Revolution, through the Marquis d'Aulède and the Comte de Fumel, Commander of the Province of Guyenne. Sold as national property, Pez belonged successively to the Tarteiron, Balguerie, Lawton, du Vivier, Bernard and Dousson families. It was bought by Champagne Louis Roederer in June 1995.
