The winemaker
Château de Parenchère is a winegrowing estate located in the eastern Bordeaux region, about thirty kilometers from Saint-Émilion. The estate extends over 188 hectares, 69 of which are devoted to vines on the best parcels of the property, with a breakdown of 63 for red and rosé wines, and 6 for whites. All the parcels of vines, aged between 25 and 50 years, are located on hillsides, which help the rain to run off. Parenchère enjoys clay-limestone soils with a strong presence of clay, which adds power to the château's wines.
The château's vineyard is made up of 7 different grape varieties, including 4 reds and 3 whites.
For the production of red wines, the château grows Merlot ( 50% ), Cabernet-Sauvignon ( 40% ), Cabernet-Franc ( 9% ) and Malbec ( 1% ).
For the production of white wines, the château grows Sauvignon ( 70% ), Sémillon ( 20% ) and Muscadelle ( 10% ).
Château de Parenchère is committed to respecting the environment, and in 2012 was awarded the highest level of certification, Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3. The estate aims for controlled production, using disbudding for example. It is also in its second year of conversion to organic farming.
The domaine produces 7 different cuvées: 4 reds, 1 white and 2 rosés. The reds are in the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, the whites in the Bordeaux appellation, and the rosés in the Bordeaux and Bordeaux Clairet appellations.
