The winemaker

In the hands of the great Bordeaux families, respecting their values

Since the estate was acquired by Pierre de Malleret, equerry to King Louis XIV in 1593, it has passed through the hands of various Bordeaux families, all driven by the quest for viticultural excellence. However, it was during the 18th century, when Vincent Février purchased Château de Malleret, that it took the road to becoming the estate we know today. He enlarged the estate and modernized the outbuildings to enrich the estate's heritage. In 1860, the reins of the estate passed into the hands of Philippe-Frédéric Clossmann, whose descendants continue to perpetuate its prosperity to this day. Today, Château de Malleret is a large, well-established family estate. The château is surrounded by a large park and 57 hectares of vines, which are the source of the estate's cuvées. Finally, as mentioned above, the estate also owes its renown to its equine tradition. For a long time, it was a stud farm with a European reputation for breeding dressage horses. Many of these horses were competition winners.

A Cru Bourgeois close to its terroir

A member of the Crus Bourgeois of the Haut-Médoc appellation, Château de Malleret benefits from a privileged environment for the production of high-quality wines. Its major asset lies in the division of its estate into three parcels offering a wide diversity of terroirs thanks to different geologies. 2013 marked a real turning point in vine-growing with the arrival of Paul Bordes at the helm of the estate. He initiated a real upheaval by introducing practices geared towards protecting the environment. The use of organic products in the vineyard is now the norm, and the development of biodiversity in the heart of the vines is encouraged to provide the plant with all the elements it needs to ripen fruit properly. These more respectful methods enable the company to produce wines that better reflect the typicity of their terroir and guarantee their quality.

Exceptional wines acclaimed by the critics

The house wines, mostly reds made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, are deep, elegant wines that have tickled the critics' fancy. In fact, Château de Malleret enjoys a considerable reputation, regularly appearing in the press with glowing reviews. The wide range of nuances offered by its cuvées recently earned it a score of 95 out of 100 from Terre de Vins magazine.
