Managed by Alain Vauthier, this estate is one of the oldest in Saint-Emilion. The wines of the estates in this region were classified at the 1855 Universal Exhibition, at the request of Napoleon III. The Château produces a Bordeaux appellation Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. Find out more

The winemaker

The 16-hectare estate is planted on clay, gravel and sand soils. The clay allows the soil to drain and prevents the vines from being too exposed to water. 4 grape varieties are grown: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Carmenère.

Château de Fonbel produces Saint-Emilion Grands Crus classés wines of consistent quality vintage after vintage. A sure bet among Bordeaux wines, it is elegant, powerful and fruity.
