The winemaker
Terroir and vineyards of Château de Carles
In the 19th century, Château de Carles became the property of the Chastenet de Castaing family. It was members of this family line who discovered the region's winegrowing potential. Under their aegis, the estate produced transcendent Fronsac wines. One thing led to another, and Château de Carles acquired land and new grape varieties. Merlot (70%), Cabernet franc (25%) and Malbec (5%) are the grape varieties used by the winemakers. Around 35 years old, the vines are south-facing and benefit from the richness of the clay-limestone and clay-silica slopes.
The wines of Château de Carles
Made from Cabernet franc and Merlot, Château de Carles red wine is a subtle blend of Morello cherries, blueberries and elderberries. Delicious and fresh, it has a long finish.
