The winemaker

Since 1997, the domain is the property of Maurice Velge. The history of the castle Clauzet begins under the Second Empire, where buildings are erected as we know them today. For the current owner, owning the castle holds the childhood dream. Indeed, his father has always evolved from the Bordeaux winemakers, which fascinated the young Maurice Velge. And if he starts buying 97 6 hectares, it covers more than 23 hectares around the Castle of Clauzet on the best soils of the AOC Saint-Estèphe, and becomes the next great vintages such as castles high Marbuzet, Cos d'Estournel, Montrose, Meyney, Phelan-Segur, Calon-Segur, Château de Pez, Les Ormes de Pez, etc. Assisted by José Bueno, who worked 20 years for Philippe de Rothschild, Maurice Velge has plans to make a great wine at a great terroir in Saint-Estèphe appellation. The vineyard has 23 hectares of deep bass with mostly 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, but also 3% Petit Verdot and finally, 2% Cabernet Franc. In the vineyard as in the cellar, it is the same succession of meticulous gestures that will lead to the birth of wines that illustrate the passion of these men and want to do the custom in search of balance.
