The winemaker
History
Recognized as Château Clarisse today, the estate didn't have the same name until 2009. Indeed, it belonged to the Estager family and was identified by "Croix de Justice". The Estager family had also carried out extensive work to bring this centuries-old estate back to its former glory, centuries old, back to its former glory. It was a success, as the Le Calvez fell under its spell in 2009.
Didier and Olivia Le Calvez come from a different world: the luxury hotel business. But this experience has forged in them a taste for detail, and a desire to do more and better. always better. They have also been in contact with wine, tasting prestigious wines while meeting sommeliers, winemakers and other professionals in the sphere professionals.
These encounters reawakened in them the passion for wine they'd already had since their their youth. Didier remembers following the wine market over the decades, whether in France in the Bordeaux region of France, or abroad, with the effervescence of American wines in the 1970s. Olivia, for her part, has been passionate about wine since childhood, wandering strolling through the vineyards of Haut-Médoc.
A shared passion that led them to purchase Château Clarisse. It's no coincidence that the name of the estate has changed under their management. They to put their stamp on the estate by naming it after their daughter, who was who was just three years old at the time of the first vintage (2010). Today, the couple enjoy a superb building on the plateau of Puisseguin, one of the villages of Saint-Emilion.
A shared passion
But our protagonists are not content with this centuries-old building. Following the purchase, they renovated it and continued to expand the vineyard. Originally, the vineyard was around 5 hectares and is now 20 hectares. While the original grape varieties were Merlot and Cabernet Franc, a number of other varieties have now joined them. The vineyard now comprises 70% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Franc and franc and 3% carménère, petit verdot and malbec.
These grape varieties will express themselves during vinifications supervised by a certain Stéphane Derenoncourt. This highly reputed oenologist and consultant, helping over a hundred domains, was called in by Didier and Olivia Le Calvez to provide them with the best possible support. The Château Clarisse set the bar very high for the quality of the wines it wished to market. to market.
Beyond vinification, one of the estate's particularities is the singular attention it pays to nature. to nature. In fact, our protagonists have taken the necessary steps to be labelled viticulture biologique (organic viticulture) label in 2016, and will obtain it in 2019. To go even further, they wish to biodynamic viticulture. Their aim is to ensure the sustainability of the soil, the vines the vines, but also to find a balance for the ecosystem. In 2019, they have also installed beehives throughout the estate to keep the momentum going...
