The winemaker

Château Canon Chaigneau is a family estate that was taken over in 2020 by wine enthusiasts and their young children. It's a superb 21-hectare Lalande-de-Pomerol, with clay-limestone soil with iron deposits. It is located on the highest part of the Néac plateau, which is the continuation of the Pomerol plateau.

It's only 800m as the crow flies from Pétrus! The majority grape variety is Merlot, with Cabernet and Malbec also present. The wines are silky and greedy, well-balanced with a beautiful aromatic complexity. Typical notes of truffle, spice, cocoa, stewed black fruit... They are vinified by the legendary Thierry Garnaud, former cellar master at Cheval Blanc!

The vineyard is HVE 3 certified and is moving towards organic farming certification in the coming years. It has been managed by the Marin family for the last 60 years, who still work on the estate: they remain partners and involved, a lovely history for this vineyard.
