The winemaker

Brown Castle through history

The first vines on the estate date back to the 12th century, in the Middle Ages. The château was named after a wealthy Scottish merchant, John Lewis Brown, who bought the estate shortly after the French Revolution. Since 2005, the Mau family has owned the estate, and passionate winegrower Jean-Christophe Mau has been running it with precision.

The Château Brown soil: a gas pedal of success

The vineyard covers 60 hectares in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan AOC. The majority is planted to red wines, with Cabernet Sauvignon leading the way. The estate enjoys a microclimate that is particularly favorable to vine-growing. The soils are typical of the Graves region. A specific combination of gravel, sand and clay gives the appellation's great wines their distinctive style. For some years now, Château Brown has been committed to the environment. Certain cuvées are guaranteed free of pesticide residues. It also works to protect the bees that are so useful in all wine production.

The soon-to-be-legendary wines of Château Brown

Château Brown's goal is to measure up to the prestigious wines of the Pessac- Léognan AOC. Jean-Christophe Mau puts his talent at the service of precision and consistency. He manages his vineyards in the same way as the grands crus classés. The numerous awards his wines have received since the 2000s prove that he's heading in the right direction. His whites are irreproachable, of absolute precision, with a majority of Sauvignon Blanc complemented by Semillon. As for the reds, they are typical of Léognan, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
