The winemaker

The Boyd family was an important family of merchants in Belfast, from Scotland. Throughout its history it has maintained a tradition of trade and international relations; emigration too. It is present in Bordeaux from the seventeenth century and Jacques Boyd gave his name to the vineyard he acquired Cantenac in 1754. The vineyard was taken over in 1806 by John Lewis Brown, Castello Brown, who was allied by marriage to the family Boyd . The 1855 ranking devoted Cru Boyd-Cantenac and its ability to produce, on more than a century, a world-class wine. Since 1932, Château Boyd-Cantenac belongs to the family Guillemet. The vineyard of Château Boyd-Cantenac is 17 hectares in Margaux. The vines have an average age of 38, and is mostly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. Historically, Château Boyd-Cantenac refuses the use of chemicals, to meet up the ecological balance of the environment. The harvest always go hand in order to select each grape at its optimum maturity depending on the wine that you want to create and the vintage.
